Building a Board That Looks Like Oregon

Friends,

Over the last eight weeks, MusicOregon has been engaged in a statewide listening tour, talking with musicians, venue operators, and presenters from one end of Oregon to the other. We already knew, going in, that we needed a board that reflects the whole state. What the tour did was sharpen that understanding and show us specifically where we still fall short.

To start, we're seeking directors from across the state: Central Oregon, the Willamette Valley, Southern Oregon, Eastern Oregon, and the Coast. We hope to attract candidates from a variety of professional roles: musicians, venue owners/bookers, production folks, educators, allied public officials, and nonprofit leadership. It also means being intentional about reaching musicians and music workers from underrepresented traditions, including Latino, API, Black, and Indigenous communities, and across a range of ages, from practitioners early in their careers to established professionals.

A little about the process. If you'd like to nominate yourself or someone else, send a resume and a brief letter of interest by email to board@musicoregon.org. From there, the board will interview a shortlist of the best-aligned candidates. We're aiming to complete the process by early September.

If you know someone with the chops to help compose MusicOregon's next chapter, please let us know. And if this describes you, don't hesitate to throw your own hat into the ring.

Thanks!

Tim

Song of the Month

Playing for Change's cover of "The Weight," featuring Robbie Robertson, Ringo Starr, and musicians across five continents. As the liner notes put it, a great song can travel anywhere, bridging what divides us and reminding us how easily we get along when the music is playing.
